Is your tyre losing pressure? Tyre2you looks at the reasons why your tyre could be going down…
Tyre losing pressure? Constantly topping it up? Dealing with a slow leak in your car tyre can be frustrating and potentially dangerous if left unchecked. Here at Tyre2you we can help identify why your tyre is losing pressure. Understanding the common causes behind these leaks is vital in identifying and addressing the problem. If you have a tyre that keeps going down pop into Tyre2you Warminster or Tyre2you Radstock where our experienced staff can help identify the problem.
Some of the most common reasons why your tyre could be losing pressure are listed below:
Valve
If your tyre is losing pressure with no obvious puncture the first point of call is to check the tyre valve. If the rubber valve is damaged it can leak, or sometimes the TPMS valve stem can leak. Bring your car into Tyre2you and we can check the valve for you.
- Puncture
Nails, glass, stones or debris can be picked up on the road and puncture a tyre. Depending on the location of the puncture on the tyre - some tyres can be repaired. If your tyre is repairable – Tyre2you can repair the tyre for £25.
- Rim corrosion
On some older cars the alloy wheels can start to corrode. This means that the wheel rim prevents the tyre from sealing properly causing the tyre to lose pressure. If your tyre is leaking from the rim, pop down to Tyre2you where we can remove the tyre, wire brush the rim and seal the tyre so it no longer leaks.
- Worn/old tyres
Older tyres are more susceptible to perishing and cracks as the rubber no longer creates a seal. Worn tyres can leak, so its imperative to check your tyres. Pop down to Tyre2you Radstock or Tyre2you Warminster where we offer a free tyre check.
- Cold Weather – temperature changes
Cold weather can cause your tyre pressure to drop, this is because the air inside your tyres contract as the temperature drops. For every 10 degrees celsius decrease in temperature tyre pressure drops by 1 to 2 psi.
If you are having issues with tyres losing pressure pop down to Tyre2you Radstock or Tyre2you Warminster where we can inspect the tyre and identify why it is going down. Low tyre pressure causes your tyres to wear out more quickly and increases the risk of punctures and it can also make your car heavier which in turn will increase stopping distances. Low tyre pressure can also increase fuel consumption so head on down to Tyre2you where we can resolve the problem and keep you safe on the road.
